Hybrid Online Research

A convenience store chain wanted to generate additional revenues at each store location, while also rebranding its two separate regional brands into a single national brand. With a very tight timeline, QRCA member Liz Van Patten, with Van Patten Research, was challenged with paring down a list of 13 concepts that might appeal to the chain’s customer base. She used an integrated qualitative and quantitative approach that narrowed the list to just six concepts in only two days of research.

A: Enough to know what teenagers like about the state fair.

QRCA member Jim Bryson, CEO of 20/20 Research, worked with Meta Research and its client CalExpo to understand how teens spent their time at the California State Fair. A text messaging program could "get inside their heads” through a real-time, interactive platform.

Standing Out in a Crowded Marketplace

In a crowded and mature pet product market, PetSafe wanted to develop pet waterers and feeders that were new, different and innovative. QRCA member Rebecca Bryant of Bryant Research guided a qualitative research project that went further than just understanding what pet owners wanted; she explored pets and their needs from 10 different points of view. You could argue that she covered every pet perspective that is humanly possible.

QRCA member Ben Smithee, managing partner of Spych Market Analytics, visited the 2010 conference to tap the minds of attendees and gain some qualitative insights about what they expect from an annual conference that revolves around technology that literally changes every day.
