The QRCA September meeting is all about qualitative deliverables. Our three presenters will give you tools, tips and tricks to make your reports shine and really wow your clients. But wait, there’s more! See below for an opportunity to send in your slide challenges (blinded, of course) for a makeover by a design expert.
Think You Aren't a Designer? Practical Tips to Give Your Reports More Visual Appeal
Presenter: Sidney Clewe
Graphic Design 101! Our world is becoming increasingly visual in its display of data. QRCs constantly are creating data that are displayed to clients and those data need to be presented in a visually compelling way to cut through the clutter. No matter how much we want to deny it, design and visual display of information are at the core of making people pay attention to research and data. This isn’t just for consumers or ad agencies, this is for our business consumers, the consumers of our research… our clients. This is not something that we can simply brush aside, saying it’s for creative agencies, designers or marketers. QRCs need to know how to present research in a visually appealing way in order to stay relevant and keep up with the business community. QRCs don’t need to hire a professional — with a bit of training and a practical approach to design basics, all QRCs have the opportunity and capacity to make visually appealing improvements to their end products that helps research get more traction and more play in the business world. Perspective just isn’t how we think and view the world, it is also the way that we output data back into the world.
About Sidney: Not only a researcher, Sidney Clewe is a trained graphic designer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. While studying business, she channeled her creative energy into receiving both a Drawing and a Graphic Design degree. She enjoys combining research and design and thinking through the visual presentation of data. Through her experience as a moderator, she understands the problems that face QRCs in the documents that they create and is able to bring a fresh perspective through her background in the creative field. Sidney works at Insights Lab and the Denver Post designing, facilitating and reporting on both qual and quant projects. Sidney also is a contract designer who does logo, print, and graphic design in addition to her day job as a researcher.
Slide Help Clinic
Presenter: Reid Glaze
Ever have a slide that no matter what you do, it just doesn’t have the pizazz you would like it to have? Or maybe it just doesn’t look right, or it’s hard to fit everything in you want? Well, fear no more as qualitative researcher and graphic specialist Reid Glaze will conduct a Slide Help Clinic using your slides! Building on the foundation Sidney Clewe will build for us, Reid will show how he transforms the ho-hum into the sublime. Prior to our session, Reid will take individual slides submitted by session attendees, rework them, and then share the before and after results walking us through his thoughts, approach, and execution. This clinic will help all QRCs put theory into practice as they strive to visually elevate client deliverables. If you would like to have the opportunity to see your slide transformed by Reid, please submit one PPT slide to Karen Zimmerman at firstname.lastname@example.org. While we can’t promise all submitted slides will be transformed, Reid will rework a number of submissions to represent the different challenges and issues we all face when completing a report or presentation. Slides must be submitted by Friday, September 1st to be considered. (And don’t forget to ‘blind’ your slide submission if necessary.)
About Reid: Reid operates as project manager and creative specialist for D. Gustafson & Associates (DGA). Reid was hired as an Insights Consultant for DGA in July 2015. In addition to working on consumer-based projects centered around Gen Y research – including social listening, digital brand audits, and insight communities – he has gained experience in moderation and pharmaceutical market research techniques. Reid is currently spearheading all creative and digital design efforts for both DGA and sister company, Lytix, for which he has led branding and creative direction. He has over two years of social intelligence experience with knowledge in a variety of digital talents, including front-end web development, graphic design, digital marketing, and social media analytics. He has also conducted report writing/analysis, consulting, and presentation development.
