Corette Haf Extends Conference Trip to Include Much of Europe

Corette Haf and her husband, Manfred, stayed on in Europe for a wonderful holiday after the conference in Vienna. She summarized her trip for Connections.

From Vienna we took an extended road trip with Ilka Kuhagen and her husband, Jochen, through the Wachau wine region next to the Danube River. While there the highlight was a boat trip from the town of Krems to the awesome Benedictine abby of Melk. Our tour continued through the stunning lake district of the Salzkammergut to Salzburg and eventually back to Munich. It was a very special time with wonderful friends in beautiful surroundings.

The next stage of our travels was the realisation of a longstanding dream: a Mediterranean cruise. Our ship sailed from Genoa down the coast of Italy to Sicily, then on to Malta, the Spanish island Mallorca, and then past Valencia and Marseilles back to Genoa. We really liked Malta, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia and would suggest that they be considered as venues for a future Worldwide Conference. Apart from the sightseeing, we enjoyed too many wonderful multiple course meals, not to mention the cocktails and Italian ice cream. We definitely carried more weight disembarking the ship – and I am not referring to our luggage!

Our extended holiday ended in the English countryside of Buckinghamshire being reunited with my husband’s daughter and her family, celebrating her special milestone birthday.

At a beer garden in Munich just prior to the conference, Corette and Ilka enjoyed Gemütlichkeit with Susan Sweet and her husband Andrew.

Andrew Darton

Welcome Our New QRCA Members!

Andrew Darton—Tokyo, Japan

I initially made Japan my home 28 years ago and now, with four kids and a business, am not likely to be moving anywhere else in the near future. I have worked in qualitative research in the Japanese market for 16 years and with several partners; I started my company, Sugata Research, nine years ago. We have slowly built it up to become one of the largest independent qualitative research firms in Japan. Our team likes to challenge what can be sometimes a more conservative approach to qualitative research in Japan, and our success in doing this has brought us many loyal clients.

To escape from the busy task of managing the business, I like to get my hands dirty and grow organic vegetables. This complements my love of food, cooking, and wine.

Kaley Mullin—Chicago, Illinois, USA

Hi, QRCA! My name is Kaley Mullin. I'm a Senior Consultant at The Futures Company, on the project-based consulting team. I have both a BA and MA in Sociology, with a focus on qualitative methods. My top areas of intellectual curiosity and experience are gender and women's issues, modern relationships, and young people. By joining QRCA, I am hoping to join a group of people who are endlessly inspired by the ideas and behaviors of consumers, aspire to continuously grow their expertise in qualitative research, and never get sick of hitting an even distribution of major metropolitan areas. I live in Chicago with my boyfriend and little doggie, Leni, and spend my time debating whether I should work out or take a nap. I also love traveling, reading, and playing pub trivia. If you ever need a recommendation of a comedy to watch or a podcast to listen to, I'm your gal!
