QRCA Code of Ethics

QRCA believes strongly that its members must uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional behavior, not only in their work, but also in their relationships with clients, field suppliers, colleagues and respondents. All members therefore agree to abide by the following principles:

  1. To conduct qualitative research in a professional manner, and to at all times strive to assure that respondent recruiting, analysis and report preparation meet high standards of excellence.
  2. To avoid discriminatory practices in respondent selection. Unless clearly justified by the research project, members will not arbitrarily exclude participants based on age, sex, race, religion or physical appearance.
  3. To represent honestly their professional credentials, academic degrees, research experience and client list when such information is made available to clients.
  4. Not to misrepresent their credentials in order to secure or maintain membership in QRCA, nor to assert or imply that QRCA membership is evidence of accreditation or endorsement.
  5. Not to offer or accept kickbacks or other favors in return for research business.
  6. To respect client and respondent confidentiality, and not to reveal proprietary research findings to others without explicit client approval.
  7. To use qualitative research procedures only for legitimate research purposes, and not, for example, as a ruse for product promotion.
  8. To treat respondents with respect and consideration and at all times to conduct themselves in such a manner as to reflect favorably on the profession which they represent.
  9. To support the QRCA Charter and Bylaws, and to endeavor to further QRCA’s key objective: to enhance the professionalism of qualitative research.

QRCA Forum Policy

General Information

The following are the rules and conditions of participating in the member-only QRCA Forum. The Forum is a member benefit provided by QRCA in furtherance of its mission and has been established to enable members to network, seek advice, encourage the free exchange of ideas, and promote professional development. QRCA accepts no responsibility for the opinions and information posted on the Forum and disclaims all warranties with regard to information posted on the Forum, whether by QRCA or its members.

QRCA does not generally monitor the Forum for inappropriate postings, and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings. However, in the event that any inappropriate posting or unauthorized use of the Forum is brought to the QRCA Executive Director’s attention, QRCA may take all appropriate action, in its sole discretion. QRCA reserves the right to terminate, without prior notice, the Forum access of any user.

In no event shall QRCA be liable for any special, indirect or consequential damages, or damages of any kind whatsoever, resulting from loss of use, data, or profits, arising out of or in connection with the use of performance of any information posted on the Forum.

This policy is subject to change depending upon the needs and requirements of QRCA and its members. Any requests for exception to the Forum policy should be directed to the Executive Director of QRCA.


Do not post any defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal information or material, and do not use the Forum in any illegal manner, including laws governing antitrust or restraint of trade. Do not use the Forum to discuss, comment about, or otherwise address matters of pricing or other competitive issues. Do not use the Forum to self promote or advertise your company or its services. Do not use the Forum to collect information about its users or to transmit any unsolicited advertising, promotional materials, junk mail, spam, chain letters, pyramid schemes, any form of gambling, or any other solicitation. Do not transmit any material that contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to negatively affects other users' ability to engage in the Forum.


Do not share messages posted on this Forum with anyone outside of QRCA unless you are given specific, written permission to do so from the individual(s) who posted the message(s). Do not post any confidential information or any information that would infringe upon the proprietary, privacy or personal rights of others.

Copyrights and Trademarks

Do not post any information or other material that is protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. Do not use any words, logos, or other marks that would infringe upon the trademark, service mark, certification mark, or other intellectual property right of the owners of such marks without the permission of such owners.

Blog Policy

The Qualitative Research Consultants Association encourages the sharing of knowledge and opinion related to qualitative research through personal blogs shared on the QRCA website. That being said, there are some limits for members of our association – and some things about which readers should be aware.

i. QRCA Members

  1. You must agree to our posting terms as part of your terms of membership in QRCA. When you join QRCA or renew your membership, you will be asked to accept these terms.
  2. The purpose of these blogs is for members to share ideas, case studies, and other content on the broad topic of qualitative research and related topics. Please keep in mind that all members are ambassadors for QRCA, and any blog posts will reflect on our association’s reputation.
  3. All posts reflect the opinion of the member who writes the post, and do not reflect the official opinion of QRCA.
  4. You (our QRCA member) own the copyright to your own posts.
  5. If you relinquish membership, your blog posts will be removed from our site. You should archive your work on your own computer or storage system.
  6. QRCA reserves the right to remove any post that is a violation of QRCA policy or of U.S. law, or is otherwise offensive, abusive, obscene, vulgar, insulting, inaccurate, hateful, threatening, or harassing. QRCA retains the right to remove material at any time, without prior notice to the member.
  7. We hope that you will offer expertise or guidance on topics related to qualitative research, but please refrain from making overt sales pitches. QRCA may remove material that is sales-oriented.
  8. Your posts must represent your own original material. If you reference or quote others, you must use appropriate attribution (no plagiarism).
  9. QRCA is not liable for any member posting.

ii. Readers of Blogs Posted by QRCA Members
Although our members have agreed to our terms of use, QRCA has more than 1000 members from nearly every time zone across the globe. This makes it impossible for our staff to monitor blog posts. All posts reflect the opinion of the member who writes the post, and do not reflect the official opinion of the Qualitative Research Consultants Association (QRCA). If you see a post that you consider objectionable or inappropriate, please notify the QRCA office (contact information provided below). We will respond as quickly as we can, but please realize that our usual work hours are Monday-Friday, 08:00-17:00 Central Time (GMT-5 during most of the year). QRCA is not liable for any member posting.

Anti-trust Avoidance

It shall be the policy of the Association to be in strict compliance with all United States of America Federal and State Antitrust laws, rules and regulations. Therefore:

  1. These policies and procedures apply to all membership, board, committee and other meetings of the Association, and all meetings attended by representatives of the Association.
  2. Discussions of prices or price levels are prohibited. In addition, no discussion is permitted of any elements of a company's operations which might influence price such as:
    a. Cost of operations, supplies, labor or services;
    b. Allowance for discounts;
    c. Terms of sale including credit arrangements; and,
    d. Profit margins and mark ups, provided this limitation shall not extend to discussions of methods of operation, maintenance, and similar matters in which cost or efficiency is merely incidental.
  3. It is a violation of Antitrust laws to agree not to compete, therefore, discussions of division of territories or customers or limitations on the nature of business carried on or products sold are not permitted.
  4. Boycotts in any form are unlawful. Discussion relating to boycotts is prohibited, including discussions about blacklisting or unfavorable reports about particular companies including their financial situation.
  5. It is the Association's policy that all meetings attended by representatives of the Association where discussion can border on an area of antitrust sensitivity, the Association's representative request that the discussion be stopped and ask that the request be made a part of the minutes of the meeting being attended. If others continue such discussion, the Association's representative should excuse himself/herself from the meeting and request that the minutes show that he/she left the meeting at that point and why he/she left. Any such instances should be reported immediately to the President and staff of the Association.
  6. It is the Association's policy that a copy of these Antitrust Compliance Policies and Procedures be given to each officer, director, committee member, official representative of member companies and Association employees annually and that the same be read, or understood at all meetings of the membership of the Association.
