Description

Q: When the authority on a subject sits down at your table and tells you to pull up a chair, what do you do?

A: You pull up a chair.

Well, get your (virtual) seat ready because the QRCA DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force) has invited THE expert on understanding and marketing to Black Americans, Pepper Miller to the table.

The author of two books, ‘What’s Black About It? Insights to Increase Your Share of a Changing African-American Market’ and ‘Black Still Matters in Marketing: Why Increasing Your Cultural IQ about Black America is Critical to Your Company and Your Brand’ and another to come, Pepper is joining us on Thursday, August 6th, to tell us a story. The story she’ll tell is one of CONTEXT: the more one understands the history of an ethnic group and how it shapes their perceptions, the better the insights from research and the better the relationship between the group and your or your client’s brand.

In this DE&I Task Force series on race and anti-racism against Blacks:

  • Professor Carmen Harris provided us deep historical CONTEXT in Part I (June 29th) and Part II (July 24th) of ‘A Primer on Race & Blackness’, while;
  • Rochelle Newman-Carrasco challenged us to shift our perspectives to better see the CONTEXT and make changes as allies to Blacks in ‘The Problem With Privilege’ (July 13th)
Pepper will now move us in our understanding of the CONTEXT towards “embracing the differences” and “respecting the individuality of the segments” within the Black population so we can be successful as insights professionals and marketers working with Black Americans. In this session Pepper will cover:
  • How Black’ different experience in American history has created fundamental differences in their beliefs, behaviors and lens through which they see the world
  • The undeniable continued influence Blacks have had over culture and the new vanguard of Black influencers
  • Defining characteristics of Black Millennials, a powerful consumer group
  • The value of relevant market research and why having a diverse market research industry matters
  • Why Black media is more important than ever before
  • Who is getting marketing to Blacks right today and how

This is a can’t-miss session!

‘Black America In Context: Understanding Our Differences, Experience, Value and Influence’ with Pepper Miller is open to both QRCA members and non-members.

This session is part of an ongoing dialogue with QRCA members, the larger market research industry and impacted communities on issues of racism, diversity and equity.
