Statement on QRCA’s Commitment to Anti-Racism

Love. Hunger. Sadness. Joy. Laughter. Breathing. These are universal experiences that unite us all as human beings.

Dismay. Anger. Frustration. These are some of the emotions we, too, at the QRCA, a global voice for qualitative research, feel when we think about the recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, as well as the systemic injustices and racial inequality that Black people, in particular, experience. Change is needed. We cannot be silent or neutral on this issue. Black Lives Matter.

The QRCA condemns racism, discrimination, and violence in any form.

We stand in solidarity with oppressed communities and those who are protesting these injustices.

Qualitative research seeks to make sense of the human experience. As researchers, we interpret and draw meaning from observations and conversations with people to affect change. Our unique skill set can be used to guide the important conversations that are desperately needed right now. As such, we call on our members, fellow associations, and research practitioners to join us in supporting anti-racism efforts and engaging in more equity-focused work. 

As a professional association, we are committed to identifying and acting on the ways in which our organization can do this work, including:

  • Increasing diversity and inclusion within our own organization and in the market research industry so it is more reflective of the world in which we operate.
  • Educating ourselves, the research industry, and the clients we serve to embrace cultural differences and to build empathy skills that move us beyond biases, seen and unseen.
  • Creating pathways to connect qualitative research practitioners with social justice and human rights organizations in need of pro bono qualitative research services to advance their missions.
